Silverfish Treatment

To ensure Seaside Pest Control delivers the most effective service possible, we kindly request that you carefully review and complete all the necessary steps listed below. Following these steps will ensure that your technician can perform a safe and successful treatment.

Preparation Prior to Service

NOTE

Silverfish are mostly seen in kitchens and bathrooms. They like to stay near water sources. Only prep areas where silverfish activity is visible.

CLEAR FLOORS

Remove all loose items from the floors of all rooms, including closets. This includes shoes, toys, or any other clutter. Place these items on shelves or in a place off the ground. Remove items stored under beds to allow access for treatment.

MOVE FURNITURE

Move easily movable furniture at least 8 inches (20 cm) away from walls. Heavy furniture items can remain in place.

EMPTY CABINETS

Remove all contents from your kitchen cabinets, under the kitchen and bathroom sinks, and from vanity drawers in the bathroom.

BASEMENT & GROUND FLOOR

Only if this is an area of concern, move all furniture 12 inches (30 cm) away from the walls. Clear all closet floors and shelves of shoes and other items. Clothing on hangers can remain in place.

DE-CLUTTER YOUR HOME

Remove unnecessary clutter from all areas, including storage rooms, bedrooms, and other areas of concern. Clear all items from shelves, countertops, and other flat surfaces to allow thorough treatment. Remove and launder all bedding and curtains. Store cleaned items in sealed plastic bags until after treatment.

BATHROOM

If this is an area of concern, clear out all items from your cabinets and sink vanity drawers. Store personal items such as toiletries, toothbrushes, and medications in sealed containers or remove them from the treatment area. Remove and wash all bathroom linens, including towels, bath mats, and shower curtains, to prevent contamination.

SEAL FOOD & OTHER EDIBLES

Store all food items, pet food, and beverages in sealed containers or place them in the refrigerator to prevent contamination during treatment.

KITCHEN

Remove small kitchen appliances from countertops and store them in cabinets or cover them to prevent contamination. Clean all kitchen surfaces, including countertops, stovetops, and inside cabinets and drawers, to eliminate any food particles that might attract pests.

Important Steps Following Treatment

Residents and pets should stay out of the treatment area for at least 4-6 hours after the treatment.

To avoid re-infestation, do not use wet wipes, towels, or mops on the treatment areas (floors, cupboards, cabinets, closets). You may vacuum these areas if needed.

People with respiratory challenges (i.e., Allergies, Asthma, Heart Conditions, Pregnant Women, Infants Under 1YR) should stay out of the treatment area for at least 12-24 hours after the treatment.

Keep an eye on the treated areas for any signs of silverfish activity. It is normal to see some activity for a short period after treatment as the insects come into contact with the treatment.

Once you return to the treated site, open windows for at least 15-minutes to ensure proper ventilation.

To help prevent future infestations, use dehumidifiers to reduce moisture levels in your home, especially in basements, bathrooms, and kitchens where silverfish are commonly found.

Do not use off-the-shelf pest control chemicals or bait stations as they can decrease or eliminate the effectiveness of the treatment.

Keep paper products, books, and other items that silverfish may feed on in sealed plastic containers or other protective storage solutions.

Fix any plumbing leaks or other sources of moisture in your home to create a less hospitable environment for silverfish.

Continue to keep your home free of unnecessary clutter, particularly in storage areas, to reduce hiding places for silverfish.

Regularly vacuum and clean your home, paying special attention to baseboards, closets, and other areas where silverfish might hide.

Periodically inspect areas where silverfish are likely to appear, such as basements, attics, and bathrooms, to catch any signs of a new infestation early.

Use pest-proof storage bags for seasonal clothing and bedding stored in closets or under beds.
